Why payroll uses decimal hours
Decimal hours make multiplication straightforward. If someone works 8 hours 15 minutes, the 15 minutes becomes 0.25 hours, so the time can be written as 8.25 hours before multiplying by an hourly wage. The same logic turns 8 hours 30 minutes into 8.50 and 8 hours 45 minutes into 8.75. The key is dividing minutes by 60 rather than treating minutes as hundredths.
